Hire Me

Let’s Spend The Night Together…

I don’t shoot weddings or corporate head-shots or families or kids in the park. I have no desire to. I don’t care what it pays! I shoot Rock! I live Metal! I know what you want because I eat, breathe, sleep your music, your lifestyle, your passion! I have done so for my entire life.

I know you! I am you!

Let’s get together and create something that defines YOU!

I believe it is imperative to form a good relationship before we work together. What is it you as an artist are trying to represent? Is there an underlying theme you want to visually portray to your audience? The more information we can collate, the better our collective ideals will marry for a successful shoot.

I like to get in the same headspace as the artist I am working with so after our initial consultation, I will immerse myself in your music, your lifestyle, your culture so that you as an artist, and I as a photographer – can successfully capture the very essence of your band and music.

I like to work on location and I have collated and photographed a wide variety of urban landscapes, abandoned buildings, textural wonders and scenic locations that may be utilised in any given shoot.

I am also open to any suggestions you may have in terms of location. On my own time, I will scout the area and photograph it in a pre-production phase so that we will be more than prepared when it comes to the day of the shoot.

I will provide you with a library of locations so that we can find the perfect setting for your photos.

Naturally, I prefer to work with harder-edged artists with a sense of visual importance and pride. If standing in graffitied alleys looking tough is your idea of a promo shoot – you’ve come to the wrong place.

Testimonials
Rory & Matt
John is so passionate about photography. It shows not only in his work, but also his work-ethic. Once we realised we needed Key of Solomon promo shots, John was our number one choice. We hit him up, and within a day he had emailed us back with photos he took while location scouting. Throughout our years in bands, this was the first time a photographer had carried out independent location scouting. Not only does John have the skills and know-how – he actively takes part in the creative process in order to get the best results.

John Raptis provides some of the best photographs we have had the pleasure of publishing in our magazine. He is extremely professional to work with and always takes the time to go above and beyond our expectations.

Martin McIntosh
John has shot many of our exhibition openings. His lens always manages to deftly cut through the bustle of the crowd yet still capture the moment and mood – through the haze of art, bodies and mayhem. His no nonsense approach is one I like – he’s a professional who gets the shots I want with no fuss whatsoever…

John Raptis is one of the rare few who truly possesses THE EYE and thrills us all when it blinks and sees the fierceness!

John Raptis isn’t like any other photographer in Melbourne, aside from having a passion for the heavier and darker side of the entertainment industry, he has a knack of capturing the honesty and purity of his subjects, like a snap shot in time, he captures the moment and makes it his own…

We have been photographed by a million photographers over the years – your photos, both live and portrait, are easily the raddest! Thank you!

John has been reliably making Desecrator look sweatier, hairier, uglier and heavier than we really are for longer than I can remember.

Band promo pics is normally the lamest, most unfun process for us as a band but John was awesome and hit it for six! I think he has spoilt us rotten on how a band should work with a photographer!

Bane Of Bedlam
John gets THE shot – before the subject even has a chance to think – therefore capturing the true essence and character of the artist or band. Where as most shoots feel awkward and forced, working with John presents a relaxed, comfortable vibe. An absolute professional, in every sense.
